Emergency & Storable Food Stores Comparison: eFoodsDirect vs Wise Food Storage

In this report

Often times, disasters are very unpredictable - they can struck at any time and place without a warning. Looking at the consequences of all kinds of disasters that are happening around the world today, more and more people have started to realize the importance of having emergency food storage and long term food supply. Among the important factors that you have to consider when buying storable food include ease of preparation, quality and types of packaging and most importantly, the nutritional value.

This report compares two online stores that offer emergency and storable food: eFoodsDirect and Wise Food Storage. The report presents the major features of each store as well as the drawbacks and pricing information.

#1 - eFoodsDirect   http://www.efoodsdirect.com

eFoodsDirect offers a variety of bulk-packed food and ready-made meal packages that require little preparation. The meals are not only suitable as an emergency preparation, but they also make great everyday meals. Products offered are of two types:

  • Quick-Fix - packets of complete meals that can be served in less than 20 minutes by just adding water
  • Reserve Paks - individual ingredients packed in #10 cans that you can use in your own recipes

Some of the notable features of this emergency food supply store are as follows:

  • Extensive product line and variety - eFoodsDirect offers a wide array of Bulk Kits, Responder Kits and Bulk Case Lots that come in a variety of packages. However, their product line is not only limited to foodstuff. You can also find various accessories such as emergency masks, grain mill, water filter and more.
  • Vegetarian-friendly - Products offered at the eFoodsDirect store are suitable for vegetarians, since they do not contain meat. Alternatively, they use textured vegetable protein (TVP) to provide the taste and texture of meat.
  • 6 Meals Free Program - To convince customers on how great their products are, eFoodsDirect offers to send 3 free samples of their meals (3 pouches of Quick-Fix meals containing 2 hearty meals per pouch). You only need to pay for shipping and handling.
  • Layaway Program - The Layaway Program is a unique program that lets you purchase certain types of food that they offer and pay it overtime through monthly payments. You can opt for the 30-day, 90-day, 6-month or 12-month option. No fee is charged for this service.
  • Discounts and Offers - This store provides customers with the opportunity to save on their products by offering discounts on other items with your purchase. For example, if you purchase the 1-year supply Liberty Unit dehydrated food, you can get $129 discount on their Berkey Light Water Filter and minimal shipping on the Wheat Supply (1-year supplemental supply of 222 pounds of whole wheat)

One disadvantage is that the use of #10 cans for some of their products may consume a lot of storage space. They also do not offer entreés in small servings like Wise Food Storage does.

The follwing are prices offered for some of their products:

  • 3-Month Responder (6 servings per day for 1 adult): $784
  • Freedom Unit (1 year supply - 3 hearty meals per day for 1 adult): $1,789
  • 7-Day Responder (6 servings per day for 1 adult): $75.85
  • Grab-n-Go Pack (2-month emergency supply consisting of 359 servings of healthy delicious Quick Fix meals and #10 cans of cereal, apple juice, and energy bars): $399.95
  • Grab-n-Go Accessory Kit (includes carry bag, water purifier and gas stove): $109.95
  • Entrées (24 mylar pouches, 2 hearty meals per pouch): $139.95
#2 - Wise Food Storage   http://www.wisefoodstorage.com

Wise Food Storage is a store that provides food supply and meals for emergency preparedness and outdoor purposes. Their ready-made meals carry a shelf-life of up to 25 years, whereas the outdoor foods has a shelf-life of 7 years. The following are the categories of products that you can find at this online store.

  • Long-Term Food Supply
  • Grab and Go Food Kits
  • Outdoor Food Kits
  • Emergency Meals

Several notable features of Wise Food Storage include the following:

  • Smart Packaging - Their ready-made meals are packed in airtight nitrogen-packed pouches. In addition, the meals are also packed in separate mylar pouches that lets you eat a flexible amount of meal as well as prevent spoilage and eliminate waste. Instead of using #10 cans, their square plastic containers are compact, stackable and thus take significantly less storage space. They also use buckets that are easy to open and close using a re-sealable pull tab lid.
  • Sample request - You can request for a sample meal from them by simply filling in your details in the online form provided on their website.
  • Affordable - Their ready-made meals cost approximately $1.60 a serving, which is more affordable than many other stores that sell emergency meals and food supply online.
  • Informative - Wise Food Storage provides complete nutritional information for the meals that they sell on the website.
  • Food Calculator - You can use their on-site Food Calculator to know which emergency food package is right for you based on the number of adults and children in your family.

The drawback of this store their choices are quite limited compared to eFoodsDirect. They also do not sell survival items and accessories separately (except the ones included in survival kits).

The following are the pricing details for several products:

  • 240 Serving Package (4 month supply - 2 servings a day for 1 adult): $450
  • 4320 Serving Package (12 month supply - 3 servings of food per day for 4 adults): $6,650
  • 72 hour Emergency Meal Kit (4 servings per day of 20 ounce lunch and dinner entrée): $34.50
  • Essential Survival Kit (2 week essential survival product and food kit for 1 person): $179
  • 60 Serving Gourmet Freeze Dry Meat: $129
  • Lunch/Dinner Entrée (Two 10 ounce servings): $5.75
The Bottom Line

In terms of value for money, both stores are quite even. However, eFoodsDirect is a great choice if you want to purchase food in bulk and want more variety in terms of packages. Not only that, but they also have a greater variety of products to offer when compared to Wise Food Storage. Unlike Wise Food Storage, they offer items such as fruits and veggies as well as drinks and nutritions. Another reason to choose this store to purchase your long term food supply is if you are a vegetarian, since the products are vegetarian-friendly.

However, if you are looking to buy a lot of small servings along with bulk purchases, Wise Food Storage is the place to go. They offer more flexibility in terms of the size of servings you can purchase. For instance, this store does not only offer 1-year supplies but also 72-hour emergency entrée kits as well as lunch/dinner entrée packs with only two servings.
